Bassrush #5, an unexpected surprise

I didn't know what to expect from this episode of Bassrush since I had not been to a LA party since February 17th (Project Love Groove with DJ Dan) and 45 days is a long time in the rave scene, especially when you are used to going every week. I was afraid the other ravers would give me shit for missing so many parties, but despite the consequences, I was not going to miss Bassrush #5 for a variety of reasons. First of all, I went to Bassrush #1, #2, #3, and #4. Second, I am a big fan of Shy Fx, as long as I don't have to hear the now played to death "Shake Ur Body", and more importantly, if I couldn't drag myself to LA for this party, what party was going to be worth going to? Maybe if I could just make it to this one party all the problems in the world would go away...

President Bush would get over his GI Joe phase and start to worry about the problems in this country ... my credit cards would suddenly have a -10% apr ... Mazda would recall my 1993 mx-3 and replace it with the new Protege turbo ... and all of my roommates would go to work and stay off drugs...

I packed my overnight bag and headed to Q-topia, realistically hoping for a few hours of quality Drum n Bass, if nothing else.

Out in front of the venue I had my first pleasant surprise. The Q looked crowded, but not slam jam packed to the rafters, so there would be some room to move inside. While this is always nice for the ravers, the promoters never seem to appreciate less than maximum capacity attendance. In todays scene, reaching capacity seems less an less likely.

My second surprise was that the security guard did not find the pack of cigarettes I snuck in for Shawna - good, at least I still have that slick "Lupin 3" thing going for me!

The next surprise came right away, as Jeff [District24] let me right in the venue. He even said that it was nice to see me! Feelin' that fuckin' PLUR, man!!!

From that point on, the party was a BLAST!

Everything was just perfect. There were tons of people I had not seen in weeks, all of whom were happy to see me as well. I spent much of the night simply talking to all my raver friends. The next surprise was DJ SS. While Shy Fx was truly the reason I had come to LA, there was no denying that SS dominated the tables that night. The guy can mix ! Fuck !

No fool, like for real, that was some heavy shit, Jumanji Style!

The last 2 hours featured a HUGE 3 way tag team with both members of Twisted Individual and DJ SS all taking turns ripping it up, but alas, SS was regulatin' so he spun most of the last hour. For Real, mAD props to SS, that night's hero.

Ths final surprise of the night came when I walked by the House Room and saw Joplin for the first time. A beautiful brunette spinning beautiful deep house? The rave world really is a dream, so on the nights that you choose to sleep, sleep well knowing that rave will never die.
